How the desk works

Bills passed in the Aug 17โ€“31 floor push must be signed or vetoed within 30 days after adjournment โ€” Sept 30 in 2026 (Art. IV, ยง 10(b)(2)); bills presented while the Legislature is in session get 12 days (ยง 10(b)(1)). A bill the Governor never acts on by the deadline becomes law without a signature โ€” the pocket signature. A veto can be overridden only by two-thirds of each house (54 Assembly / 27 Senate) (ยง 10(a)). Full mechanics: ask Goldie or see the bills lifecycle guide. Veto rationale is shown only where press coverage quoted the veto message โ€” cards without one reflect unreported reasoning, not an absence of it.
